Biosome addresses multiple large markets in excess of $25 billion annually. These markets include biodefense, healthcare, veterinary medicine, food and water safety, cleanroom monitoring, and sterile packaging.

Our first product is for the rapid determination of which antibiotics are effective in treating bacterial pathogens. The system is portable, inexpensive, and requires little training or user intervention to use. Our initial target market segment is the Department of Defense and Homeland Security. Based upon their medical and biodefense needs, these markets are well in excess of $1 billion annually with an on-going revenue stream from disposables. By dealing with the US government, direct distribution is feasible.

The Biosome® system can be used in hospitals and other point of care facilities to speed treatment and reduce healthcare costs. For example, in the US, septic infections cause over 100,000 deaths and cost the economy nearly $20 billion annually. Delays in selecting an effective antibiotic cost thousands of dollars per patient and cost lives, which could be saved with the Biosome® system.

The Biosome® system also has direct applications in other areas such as the monitoring of cleanrooms and sterile packaging for bacterial contamination.
